BARBIER - LOW FUSION FILM with 20 per cent of PCR

Product Name;

LOW FUSION FILM with 20% of PCR

What Made You Decide to Design This Product and Choose to Use Recycled Plastic Content?

New generation of Bundling/Multipack shrink film, efficiency and green! With is special structure and composition of its recipe this film allows to reduce the temperature of the oven during the shrinking process. Thanks to new extrusion technologies, the machine produce in 5 layers allows us the combination of several additives which increasing the power of shrinking of the film while lowering the thickness and also to be able to integrate recycled material inside the central layer not to disturb the action of the 4 other layers.

What Were They Key Outcomes and Objectives That Lead You to Design This Product?

The first function of this film is bundling several products in the same batch and we pass this grouped products and wrapped with a shrink film in an shrinking oven heated between 200 and 240°C. With is particular feature to reduce the temperature of the oven during the shrinking process of the pack, this film bring multiple impact for our industrials consumers: - reduction of the temperatures between 20 and 40°C = energy saving, - reduction of the thickness of approximately 10µm = less plastic consuming - 18%, - reduction of the carbon footprint with 20% of recycled material= Co2 savings -17%, - in some case it allows even to increase rates of the shrinking machines - maintain the technical and mechanical features, visual aspect of the film, - Slightly more expensive around 4%.

Outline The Development Phase of the Design:

It is in production.

How Did You Monitor and Meet the Objectives That You Set? Where Appropriate Include Information On Research, Resourcing, Speed-To-Market, Material Selection, Testing and So On:

To make this film our starting point was the realization that our industrial customers could support a considerable cost of energy. For the bottlers particularly, the process of conditioning with shrink oven, are very energy consuming in gas or electricity. Indeed, in a continuing process with ovens at 200°C/240°C 8 to 10 months per year that can generate costs impacting from a financial but especially environmental point of view.

What Is Special About The Design?

Thanks to new extrusion technologies and know-how, we can produce with more layers allows us the combination of several additives which increasing the power of shrinking of the film while lowering the thickness and also a possible integration of recycled material inside.
